Mussel Inspections

ALL Vessels that intake water, motorized and non-motorized

PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE MUSSEL INSTRUCTIONS BELOW

  1. HROA members and tenants with vessels that meet the criteria, are encouraged to sign up for the HROA Inspection Program for 3, 6 or 12 months.  Details and instructions are on the forms to the right.  To sign up, you must complete the agreement and a vessel screening permit for each vessel.

  2. The mussel program no longer carries mussel inspection over from the previous season.  New paperwork is required annually for the program.  Vessel screening permits are required for each vessel, as well as a current decal.

  3. On-demand inspections and program initial inspections are available at the HROA office Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  4. The Kiosk is scheduled to open April 1, 8 AM to 2 PM on Saturdays and Sundays only.

  5. Effective May 1, 2023 through the end of the boating season, the kiosk will also open, the Mussel Inspection Kiosk at the HROA Marina will be open Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday from 8 AM to 2 PM.

  6. Currently, after 1:00 p.m. boaters can contact the HROA, (805) 238-9641 x451, to set up an appointment during the week.

  7. On weekends, without a mussel inspection, boaters must go to the Main Marina at the Nacimiento Lake Resort to receive inspections and will have to launch from there.  For details and directions, visit https://nacimientoresort.com/

  8. In order to launch from the HROA Marina, you must receive an inspection from an HROA inspector.  Inspections at the Main Marina are not transferrable, however a banded boat (see below for instructions) from the marina will expedite the mussel inspection process at HROA. This restriction is imposed by the County of San Luis Obispo and is not negotiable.

  9. When launching from the Main Marina during the week, if you are planning to get an HROA inspection in the near future, ask Monterey County Main Marina staff to band the boat when you come off the lake.  You will still need an HROA inspection to launch from the HROA Marina, but the band will ensure you are not declined an HROA inspection because the vessel is still wet.

  10. The Mussel Inspection Kiosk at the HROA Marina will remain on the schedule above until the lake levels drop to below 730'.   With the current water levels, the ramp is expected at this time to remain open for the full boating season and beyond.  Check here for lake level and boating season updates

  11. When the HROA Launch Ramp closes, the Kiosk closes and the HROA Mussel Inspection Program ends.  Remaining inspections will not carry over.

  12. If you have questions, please call the HROA Member Services Office at (805) 238-9641 x451 or send an email to [email protected].
